2/25/2023 0 Comments Lord of the rings cities![]() I mean, Minas Tirith seems to be a pretty sizable city - presumably it is supported by a vast, vast rural population, trade routes with both other kingdoms and with other smaller cities within Gondor itself, etc. ![]() Is that actually the case, or is that just a wrong impression I've gotten of the setting? To be clear, I haven't really made any study of Tolkien (I'm not honestly much of a fan, I tend to find the works tedious). It feels very much like it is tiny, tiny pockets of the remainder of older civilizations, scattered about and largely out of contact with each other, separated by vast empty wilderness. ![]() ![]() Both reading the books as a teen, and watching the movies now, I am struck by one of the major flavour differences Middle Earth has from most other fantasy settings - it feels so desolate, so sparse, like it is a depopulated fantasy post-apocalypse setting. ![]()
